An exquisitely thoughtful gift disguised as a horror show
For a recent birthday gift, I created a brochure from a fictional, dystopian megacorporation containing a variety of “Events®” from their many subsidiaries and corporate partners.
The gift recipient was nursing her mother through hospice care and couldn’t find time to celebrate or see her friends. In response, I contacted about a dozen of her relatives and close friends, invited them to create personalized outings and offers of emotional support that she could redeem at any time in the future when she had more time or needed an emotional boost.
The idea of a company producing such a hyper-tailored set of product offerings felt like the stuff of a dystopian novel and thus TAPEC was born. I worked with a graphic designer to produce an official-looking booklet containing all of the gifts as well as lore about the fictional company and instructions on how to use the book, which also doubles as a scrapbook cataloguing each activity.
